Tips:
When buying, look for a pumpkin with smooth firm skin that feels heavy for its size.
When preparing the pumpkin, make sure you are on a surface that is not slippery - use a tea towel to sturdy your chopping board if needed. To cut the pumpkin, use a heavy duty knife or clever and follow the natural ridges of the pumpkin to cut wedges. Clean the seeds out with a spoon or knife.
The easiest way to cook pumpkin is to leave its skin on and just scoop out the flesh once it’s cooled. Alternatively, use a sharp knife and work your way around the pumpkin wedge to remove the skin before cooking.
Food waste tip: Separate the pumpkin seeds from the pulp, then rinse and dry. The seeds can be tossed in oil and spices and easily baked to make a crunchy snack.
