Tips:

  • When buying, look for small, tightly-wrapped coils that are bright green.

  • Some fiddlehead ferns will come covered in their thin brown casing, which you can rub off with your fingers before cleaning.

  • Fiddlehead ferns can have quite a bit of dirt trapped in their curl, so place them in a large bowl of water and unfurl them slightly as you rub them to remove any residual dirt.

  • DO NOT eat Fiddlehead Ferns raw as they can carry cause food-borne illness and upset stomachs.
