Tips:

  • Young, unripe jackfruit lends itself well to savoury dishes thanks to its fibrous texture and neutral flavour, which has made it a go-to meat alternative.

  • In the UK, Jackfruit is mostly found in cans or pouches. If you purchase canned jackfruit, make sure to remove the tough core of the fruit and give it a good wash to remove the vinegar-y flavour of the brine.

  • If you are lucky enough to buy fresh jackfruit, slice the fruit through the middle and remove the tough core. Pop out the fruit pods from the stringy fibres and de-seed.

  • Food waste tip: Jackfruit seeds are completely edible and highly nutritious, so make sure not to discard them.
